NPFF at Almedalen 2026 – Stories That Refuse to Be Silenced

The Nordic Palestinian Film Festival (NPFF) participated in Almedalen Week 2026 with a moving public presentation entitled "Stories That Refuse to Be Silenced."

Almedalen Week is Sweden's largest democratic forum and one of the country's most influential meeting places for politics, civil society, culture, academia, and public debate. Participating in Almedalen provides NPFF with a unique opportunity to bring Palestinian stories into one of Sweden's most important public conversations, where democracy, freedom of expression, and cultural dialogue take center stage.

Festival founder and director Wafá Jamil spoke about the importance of film and culture in preserving memory, creating understanding, and amplifying voices that are too often ignored.

She opened by thanking En Annan Röst for providing a space where Palestinian voices can be heard freely. She also shared the story of NPFF, which began as an idea in 2022 and has grown into a nationwide festival touring Sweden from Helsingborg in the south to Luleå in the north, building cultural bridges between the Nordic countries and Palestine.

This year's festival presents 57 films from 24 countries and features a jury of four distinguished women from the fields of cinema and journalism. The program includes film screenings, director talks, poetry, and Palestinian music, celebrating both resilience and hope.

One of the most emotional moments of the speech recalled March 17, 2024, when Wafá's sister's home in Gaza was bombed on the very day NPFF opened in Stockholm. Despite the tragedy, the festival continued, and the fully booked opening screening became a powerful reminder of cinema's ability to connect people and keep human stories alive.

NPFF also expressed sincere gratitude to its partners, including ABF, Folkets Bio, Filmcentrum, Filmpool Nord, Region Skåne, Film på Gotland, Gotland för Palestina, and cinemas across Sweden that continue to support the festival.

The presentation concluded with an invitation to audiences to attend the festival, follow NPFF's work, and support its mission of bringing more Palestinian stories to wider audiences.
